Negpho

 

As a result of the dire need for a union of photographers in the Negombo area, the "Negombo Photographers Association" was founded on 22 July 2001 under the initiative of Mr. Sampath Peiris and with the participation of 15 photographers. Demonstrating the progress of the association, the first general meeting was held with great pomp on 4^th November 2001 at the “Golden Star” Hotel, Negombo. Thus, the Negombo Photographers Association, which started with 15 members, has continued to grow for 24 years since its first general meeting, becoming a leading association among the current photography associations. Currently, the association has grown to 60 active members and 300 associate members, demonstrating the progress of the association.

 

 

Projects carried out by the Negombo Photographers' Association:

• Seminars to educate school children about photography - 2002
• Initiation of residential nature photography workshops to encourage wedding photographers to be environmentally friendly - 2004
• Honoring the veteran photographer Dr. M.S. Virakoon - 2007
• Laying the foundation stone for the association building - 2008
• Organizing a walk for the first time in Sri Lanka for World Photography Day - 2008
• Organizing a workshop for beauticians for the first time in Sri Lanka (Rujaya) - 2009
• Reception and felicitation ceremony for our association's Priyankara Gamage, who won a gold medal at the Al Thani International Photography Competition, at the special guests' reception terminal of the Katunayake Airport - 2010
• Initiation of a welfare fund for member artists with the contribution of the board of directors - 2010.
